Overview
Position Summary - Evaluate the appropriateness of the compounded prescription orders prescribed by veterinarians. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to review and optimize medication regimens. Provide advice on drug interactions and potential drug side effects, and guidance on proper medication usage. Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient concerns and inquiries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily:
Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy, ascertain the needed ingredients, and evaluate their suitability. Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records, and Prescription Monitoring submission records. Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications. Collaborate with other veterinary professionals to plan, monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications or characteristics. Maintain Pharmacy equipment and supplies and storing and handling them properly. Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
Advise customers on selecting medication brands, medical equipment, or healthcare supplies. Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by veterinarians, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities. Handle and validate chemicals and drugs including Hazardous drugs on the NIOSH list. Manage pharmacy operations, hire or supervise staff, perform administrative duties, or buy or sell non-pharmaceutical merchandise. Offer health promotion or prevention activities, such as training people on medical equipment.
Teach pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure. Refer patients to other veterinary professionals or agencies when appropriate. Update or troubleshoot pharmacy information databases. Publish educational information for other pharmacists, veterinarians, or patients. All other duties as assigned.

Education/ExperienceMaster's degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
