About the role

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) functions as the surgical first assistant under the supervision of the surgeon during intra-operative procedures. The RNFA also serves as a Registered Nurse based on department needs.

Sign-on bonus: $10,000 for external applicants

• Assist with procedural setup, patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
• Assist the surgeon with skin closure, vessel tying, tissue incisions, and hemostatic techniques.
• Maintain a safe peri-operative environment, observing aseptic techniques.
• Participate in patient transport and room turnover to ensure efficiency.
• Function as a Registered Nurse and circulate cases as needed.
• Serve as an educator, mentor, and resource to staff and patients.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Graduation from a surgical first assistant program required.
• Valid RN license from Virginia or a reciprocal state required.
• Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required at hire.
• BSN preferred; RNs with an Associate's Degree in Nursing must obtain their BSN within five years.
• Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification preferred.
