Job Description
Summary:
The North and South Europe Grid System Integration (GSI) team delivers a wide range of high‑voltage transmission projects, including new generation connections and grid stability initiatives, and is seeking an experienced Power Systems Studies Engineer to support concept development, external resource management, and client technical interfacing.
During the tender stage you will lead concept studies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure solutions meet Grid Code and client requirements. Once a project is secured, you will manage external consultants, validate studies, and serve as the primary technical liaison with clients.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret customers’ power system requirements and regulatory constraints.
- Develop initial system architecture and advise on design optimisations.
- Perform provisional load‑flow, RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability), and harmonic studies using Power Factory, DIgSILENT, or similar tools.
- Coordinate with mechanical‑electrical teams to ensure efficient and cost‑effective design realisation.
- Manage third‑party resources for detailed studies, validating their work before integration.
- Communicate project status, address client queries, and ensure timely, comprehensive responses.
- Identify required studies, prepare procurement specifications, and engage sourcing teams for full project study execution.
- Oversee consultant work, monitor progress, and validate deliverables.
- Act as the main point of contact for all Power System Studies matters and facilitate customer approval processes.
- MSc (or equivalent) in Power Systems Engineering.
- Over 7 years’ experience conducting electrical studies on high‑voltage transmission systems.
- Strong knowledge of load‑flow, equipment sizing, reactive power management, short‑circuit calculations, harmonic management, availability studies, and insulation coordination.
- Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as PSS®E, Power Factory DIgSILENT, PSCAD.
- Experience with RAM studies software (e.g., Relia Soft Block
SIM). - Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
Deep understanding of power transmission and grid operations, familiarity with UK Grid Code, IEC, IEEE standards, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts to clients and consultants. You will be a proactive, self‑managed team player capable of balancing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
