Job Description Summary (English)

This position reports to the Grid Automation Protection and Controls System Engineering leader and is responsible for pioneering exploratory power system modelling and simulation within the Advanced Automation Applications (AAA) scope. You will work to translate complex power system concepts into functional models, bridging the gap between theoretical power system analysis and actionable software/algorithmic solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities (English)

As a subject matter expert in power system dynamics and control, you will drive the ideation, design, and validation of exploratory models. Your work will inform our innovation roadmap by creating high‑fidelity representations of grid scenarios to test new protection, automation & control applications.

  • System Modelling & Translation:
    • Design and develop exploratory power system models (transient, steady‑state, or dynamic) to simulate emerging grid behaviors.
    • Translate complex power system concepts and protection/control philosophies into robust, high‑fidelity models using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, or Opal‑RT.
    • Develop and validate novel algorithms for smart grid control, integrating these into simulation environments.
  • Standards & Design:
    • Ensure all models, proposed solutions, and product roadmap align with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC).
    • Apply rigorous engineering principles to interpret standards and apply them to the design of exploratory simulations and control architectures.
  • Software & Algorithm Development:
    • Algorithmic Implementation:
Design and implement robust algorithms for smart grid control. Your focus should be on the clarity, modularity, and logical structure of sub‑blocks to ensure they integrate seamlessly into our existing simulation and automation frameworks.
    • Professional Development Practices:
Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the commercial software development lifecycle. You will be expected to produce maintainable, well‑documented code/model that aligns with team standards.
    • Workflow Integration:
Actively utilize industry‑standard practices, including formal version control (e.g., Git), unit testing, and peer‑review processes, ensuring your exploratory work is scalable and can be readily utilized or audited by the broader engineering team.
  • Innovation & Collaboration:
    • Act as a technical expert for exploratory research projects, proposing and demonstrating novel techniques that differentiate our AAA portfolio.
    • Collaborate with the Grid Solutions Innovation Lab to influence the broader R&D strategy.
