Job DescriptionInternship in the Verification and Validation Department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic, and growing team of engineers working on the validation of HVDC Control Systems.
Responsibilities- Work as part of an expert team, providing ample opportunity for learning design, development and testing skills relevant for working with control and protection systems, particularly power electronics systems and grid technology.
- Execute, under guidance of senior engineering resources, the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards.
- Support in producing required technical documentation under the supervision of senior engineers (e.g., requirement capture, design, test specification development).
- Follow the department’s standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
- Assist with laboratory activities for the installation and testing of the control system.
- Use some level of judgment and propose different solutions outside of set parameters with guidance.
The candidate will have completed 2 years of degree level in a related science such as Electrical Engineering. Experience and proven ability to perform the role is valued as highly as academic qualifications.
Skills & Experience- 2:1 degree grade or above (or equivalent) predicted or obtained in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Good written communication skills – minimal spelling or grammatical errors.
- Eligibility to undertake placement – internship is 12 months; candidate must be available for the full duration.
- Advantageous:
- MATLAB/Simulink model development and simulation.
- PSCAD & RSCAD power system studies.
- Python or similar scripting experience.
- Basic academic knowledge sufficient; willingness to learn on the job.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self‑motivating, proactive and results‑driven approach.
- Problem‑solving and root‑cause identification skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines with good quality.
- Proficient in the English language, written and verbal. Other languages are a bonus.
