Job Summary

The Lead Secondary Design Engineer will lead a geographically diverse team of designers, subcontractors, engineers, and project teams working on protection and control schematics and substation equipment. The role offers a high‑level overview of design and interface with various teams throughout the project cycle. The Lead is responsible for departmental operations planning/execution and the execution of professional activities within a technical discipline.

Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Plan basic and detailed design activities.
  • Manage and oversee detailed execution progress.
  • Coordinate delivery of required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing, and site erection.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery of design and partner documents to stakeholders with suitable quality.
  • Anticipate and mitigate delivery issues and recommend changes.
  • Lead and coordinate the design team.
  • Manage and monitor detailed execution progress and short‑term plan.
  • Request technical coordination meetings as appropriate.
  • Manage design time spent in man‑hours on relevant activities.
  • Follow and implement project strategy.
  • Highlight scope or design changes (data for claims, VO).
  • Inform PEM/PM of design issues throughout project execution and propose solutions.
  • Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Represent customer interests in design decisions at PM request.
  • Coordinate with partners on customer technical comments.
  • Seek cost optimization throughout all design phases.
  • Ensure technical consistency of design area.
  • Check design subcontractor deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Good level of engineering experience in the related activity/discipline, preferably in project & EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or Oil & Gas industry, or 2–4 medium set projects in the position of Lead Engineer.
  • Experience in project technical management processes, preferably in a multi‑disciplinary team context with multiple interfaces.
  • Several experiences in managing externally subcontracted design work packages of various sizes.
  • Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry.
