Carrington West are assisting a west midlands based building control team with the appointment of an experienced Registered Building Inspector to support their service across South Staffordshire.
This is a predominantly site-based position covering the southern half of the South Staffordshire district, with occasional cover across other areas of the partnership. The role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced local authority Building Control professional looking for a well-paid, ongoing contract.

The Role
The successful candidate will manage a varied Building Control workload, with responsibilities including:

· Predominantly carrying out site inspections and recording outcomes on Uniform to required standards

· Detailed plan checking where required, including amended plans, discharge of conditions and Full Plans decisions

· Dangerous structure investigations and enforcement

· Building Regulations enforcement, including unauthorised works and property-specific complaints

· Responding to enquiries from members of the public

· Providing pre-application advice within the scope of the RBI Code of Conduct

· Managing conflicting statutory demands and making technical decisions within the scope of your BSR registration
Plan checking is currently outsourced, meaning the position will be predominantly focused on site inspections, although there will be opportunities to undertake plan checking to maintain competence.
About You
To be considered, you will need to be a Registered Building Inspector with a minimum of Class A, B and D registrations with the Building Safety Regulator, alongside strong previous local authority Building Control experience.
You should have:

· Strong all-round experience of site inspections and plan checking

· Experience across domestic projects, new-build houses/flats and low-risk commercial buildings

· Good knowledge of Building Regulations and relevant local authority legislation

· Previous experience dealing with dangerous structures

· The ability to make complex decisions within the scope of your registration

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Confidence dealing professionally with applicants, duty holders and members of the public

· Good ICT skills, ideally including experience with Uniform and electronic inspection systems
Hybrid working is available, although candidates with excessive home-to-work travel times may be expected to work from the partnership's Codsall offices.
