Be Part of Building a Safe and Confident Staffordshire

Staffordshire Police is seeking talented and forward-thinking Inspectors to help lead policing at a pivotal time. Our ambition is clear: to deliver a safe and confident Staffordshire through an outstanding local police service that puts communities first, supports its people, and works closely with partners.

As an Inspector, you will play a key role in delivering Force priorities, including protecting vulnerable people, improving investigative standards, building public confidence, and reducing crime and antisocial behaviour across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

From rural communities and market towns to the urban centres of Stoke-on-Trent, Tamworth and Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire presents a diverse and rewarding policing environment. Our communities expect a service that is visible, responsive and committed to keeping people safe.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Force that is investing in its people, technology and future. You will lead officers and staff to deliver high-quality policing, manage operational demand, develop strong partnerships, and drive continuous improvement within your area of responsibility.

Applications are welcomed from substantive Inspectors seeking a lateral move and substantive Sergeants ready for promotion who can demonstrate the leadership, professionalism and values expected at CVF Level 2.

About

The Role

As an Inspector, you will play a key role in delivering force priorities by leading teams to provide an effective, visible, and responsive policing service. You will be responsible for managing operational policing activity, protecting vulnerable people, improving investigative standards, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, and maintaining public confidence.

You will lead officers and staff within your area of responsibility, ensuring resources are effectively deployed, risks are appropriately managed, and policing services are delivered in line with force priorities and community expectations.

  • Lead and manage operational teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality policing services.
  • Oversee investigations, incidents, and operational activity, ensuring decisions are lawful, proportionate, and evidence based.
  • Manage performance, standards, and productivity within your area of responsibility.

  • Support the delivery of force priorities through effective leadership, problem solving, and resource management.
  • Promote a positive culture focused on professionalism, wellbeing, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a role model for ethical behaviour, challenging inappropriate conduct and ensuring compliance with professional standards.
  • Take responsibility for managing risk, protecting vulnerable people, and safeguarding communities.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must have completed the NPPF Eligibility Steps 1 and 2.

  • Undertake accreditation in a bronze command skill in one of the specialist skill areas i.e. Public Order, Firearms, SIO or an on-call function (at the request force)
  • Where officers have not undertaken the Midline Leaders Training, this must be undertaken within 12 months of being successful. The above will be tracked and monitored by the Learning and Development Team.
