Overview
Job Description Per performs difficult protective services work overseeing the safe use of County aquatic facilities, providing emergency rescue services and emergency first aid; does related work as required; work is performed under general supervision. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate aquatic staff.
Compensation The starting pay for Lifeguard I is $16.83/hour, and based on experience. The starting pay for Lifeguard II is $17.67/hour, and based on experience. The starting pay for Lifeguard III is $18.55/hour, and based on experience. The starting pay for the Head Lifeguard/Pool Operator is $19.86/hour, and based on experience.
Responsibilities- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the aquatic facilities, acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Ensures health and safety by pool surveillance and enforcement of aquatics policies, rules, and regulations.
- Keeps aquatic facilities clean and safe at all times.
- Supervises all aquatic complex activities.
- Supervises revenue collection and deposits; tracks daily revenues.
- Supervises instructional classes and processes program registrations.
- Assists in control of water quality, operation of pool filtration system, and water testing.
- Completes all required records and reports on a daily basis.
- Oversees required in-service training programs and attends all required in-service training programs, maintaining skills at test-ready levels at all times.
- Supervises special events and private parties; maintains proper updated safety requirements.
- Conducts swimming tests to ensure patrons can swim in deep water.
- Provides exceptional customer service, maintains professional demeanor and image at all times.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Motivates and directs staff, assists in training, and performs skill testing.
- Orders and maintains all supplies, equipment, and chemicals.
- Performs related work as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, techniques, and equipment required to provide emergency water rescues.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of lifeguarding and first aid.
- Thorough knowledge of aquatic area operations, including sanitation, maintenance, and safety.
- Thorough knowledge of pool filtration and chlorination systems.
- Ability to withstand exposure to direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and to work in a team environment.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Minimum 1 season of lifeguarding and aquatic management or related experience; successful completion of skills screening; minimum age of 16 years old.
Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certifications and Pool Operator’s license.
