About the Role

Are you practical, proactive and proud of maintaining safe, welcoming and well-presented environments?

We are looking for an Estates Officer (Caretaker) to join our Estates team and play an important role in ensuring our College buildings, grounds and facilities are safe, secure, clean and well maintained for our students, staff and visitors.

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for a range of estates, maintenance, security and facilities duties, working as part of a supportive team while also being confident working independently.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day security of College premises, including opening and closing buildings and key-holding responsibilities.
  • Responding to alarm activations, security incidents and emergency situations when required.
  • Carrying out routine inspections and maintenance of buildings, fixtures, fittings, plant and equipment.
  • Undertaking general maintenance and repairs across areas such as plumbing, carpentry, joinery, painting and decorating, electrical work or grounds maintenance.
  • Ensuring the College grounds and access routes are safe and well maintained, including gritting and snow clearance when required.
  • Supporting waste, recycling, cleaning and general environmental standards across the site.
  • Moving furniture and equipment and supporting porterage duties.
  • Driving College vehicles, including vans and minibuses, when required.
  • Working closely with colleagues, contractors, emergency services and other stakeholders to ensure a responsive and high-quality Estates service.
  • Supporting College events and open evenings where required.
About You

We are looking for someone with practical maintenance experience and a can do attitude who takes pride in providing a high-quality service.

You will ideally have experience working in a similar estates, facilities, maintenance or caretaking environment, with knowledge and practical skills in at least one relevant trade.

You will need to be:

  • Practical, proactive and confident in identifying and resolving maintenance issues.
  • Able to prioritise and manage a varied workload, often responding to changing priorities.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Customer-focused, with excellent communication skills and a professional approach.
  • Knowledgeable about health and safety and committed to maintaining safe environments.
  • Flexible in your approach to working hours, including occasional evening work.
  • IT literate, with experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to work at height and in confined spaces where required.
  • A full clean driving licence holder.

A relevant Level 2 qualification in a construction or maintenance trade would be desirable, although candidates who are willing to undertake relevant training will also be considered.
