This role will be essential for providing cover for any of our Nursing team’s absence, working with students of all age groups across our sites from EYFS to Sixth Form. The successful candidate will work in accordance with their professional body to maintain the excellent standard of healthcare at Stamford School, providing support and advice to all members of the school community, and treating pupils and staff where appropriate.
The position requires high levels of confidentiality, adherence to the school’s strict confidentiality and data protection policies, and maintenance of all healthcare records for both boarders and day students.
The clinical responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment, providing confidential health advice and treatments, supporting mental health, working with parents to promote good parenting, updating ‘need to know’ lists, maintaining clinical equipment, and adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures. The post-holder will be flexible to the changing needs of the school and directly involved in all aspects of medical provision across the SES family, liaising with boarding house staff on medical conditions and arranging GP surgeries as required.
Additional responsibilities: covering absences and illness of the Nursing team, maintaining medical stocks, working with trip leaders to ensure risk assessments are complete, staff training (where necessary), assisting with the administration of medical administration, supporting the school immunisation programme, providing a first‑aid service for the whole school community, and covering first‑aid at home sporting fixtures, sports days, and concerts. Bank staff will maintain professional registrations and work across sites, attend staff meetings, and INSET at the beginning of term.
- Evidence of commitment to continuing personal and professional development
- Appropriate professional body registration
- High standard of clinical work and decision making
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to relate to young people and parents
- Excellent IT and organisational skills
- Experience in treatment of sporting injuries, orthopaedics, minor illness, accident and emergency, practice health nursing, school health nursing, paediatric nursing, ENT nursing
- Understanding of acute and chronic medical conditions
- Assessment of minor illness
- Assessment of injuries
- Awareness and understanding of child safeguarding issues
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in stressful situations
- Up to date First Aid at Work qualification – willingness to undertake this training is essential
- ENB
998 or equivalent - Post‑registration training
- Knowledge of national school immunisation programmes
- Experience with working with children and families
- Sports injury training
- Some experience in occupational health and infection control
