Job Summary
Supports dentist in delivering primary dental care, prepares equipment and workplace for use, and contributes to a supportive atmosphere for dental patients. Uses chairside, four-handed dentistry techniques. Responsible for providing assistance to the dentist during dental procedures. Ensures smooth operation of the dental office. This role is both clinical and administrative, providing patient care and supporting the dental team to maintain efficient workflows.
Roleand Responsibilities
- Assisting during procedures:
Prepare patients and the treatment area, hand instruments to the dentist, manage suction or other equipment to ensure smooth progress of treatments. - Patient care:
Prepare, comfort and provide excellent customer service at all times, provide post-operative instructions, and address patient questions or concerns, ensuring a calm and welcoming environment with a focus on quality care and teamwork. - Sterilization and infection control:
Sterilize dental instruments and equipment following safety protocols, clean and disinfect treatment areas after procedures, manage log books and strictly adhere to standard precautions. - X-rays:
Take quality dental radiographs as directed by the dentist and ensure they are properly processed for review. - Using electronic health record:
Understand and navigate the EHR to enter and complete charting as directed by the dentist. - Stock management:
Ensure the office is stocked with necessary supplies and order/maintain inventory of dental materials. - Patient education:
Instruct patients on proper oral hygiene and care routines, provide guidance on post-treatment care.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Graduate of an accredited Dental Assisting School or two years of general dentistry experience
- Certified in Dental Radiology by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
- Certified in Infection Control and maintaining 1 hour of CE per state regulation
- Knowledge, interest, or passion for caring to a diverse patient population
- Written and oral bilingual fluency in a language spoken by our patient population (e.g., English/Spanish or English/Polish) strongly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and listening) and patient-focused attitude
- Ability to work well under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and adherence to infection control protocols
- Strong organizational skills
- Completion of required competencies/courses/in-service training workshops in a timely manner
- Flexibility to travel to other sites as needed and a team player who communicates properly
Requires good manual dexterity and fine motor coordination; good vision; physical mobility and flexibility; good reflexes; light lifting required; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Must follow OSHA standards and Universal Precautions at all times.
Work Schedule DemandsWork as scheduled, with some evening and weekend hours as needed. Flexible to travel to other sites as needed.
