JOB DESCRIPTION - SUBSTITUTE SECURITY WORKER
GENERAL STATEMENT:
The Security Worker assists in the establishment and maintenance of a positive and safe educational plant and school environment. Since this position is considered a district position, the Security Worker reports to the principal of the school/building to which he/she may be assigned and also to the District Director of Security. Activities and schedules can vary with each school, and Security Workers are expected to work a full day (8 hours) at any and all of the following activities as directed by the principal or his/her designee.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists teachers or staff with individual student management including home visits.
- Assists in the management of trespassers on school property.
- Assists in the securing of the building.
- Participates in orderly passing of students to and from classes or other student activities.
- Assists staff in monitoring the comings and goings of all visitors.
- Assists in student management at assemblies and other group activities.
- Directs students to their appropriate activity and checks hallway passes.
- Assists in supervision of cafeteria(s).
- Assists in supervision of all public hallways.
- Assists in supervision of all bathrooms.
- Assists students with locker problems.
- Assists in programs for loss control.
- Assists in supervision of student lounge areas.
- Assists with staff in orderly boarding and exiting of school buses.
- Assists in reduction of property destruction.
- Assists in the appropriate use of school facilities such as tracks, fields and stadiums.
- Assists in the management of sporting activities when so directed by the principal or his/her designee.
- High School Diploma required.
- State-certification as a Security Officer (mandated by state law.)
- Demonstrated interest in developing skills related to current trends in school security.
- Demonstrated experience in security work preferred.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with students, staff, parents and community groups.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written).
Candidates must have the ability to perform physical requirements of school security i.e.:rapid response, stamina for climbing stairs and extensive walking. - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time to assist student(s) and/or staff, and to monitor areas of the physical plant.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop and kneel.
- The employee must have the ability to respond to a call by actually running for a short distance.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
