Executive Search and Interim Solutions | Financial Officers Practice at Highspring

Highspring has been engaged with a trusted Private Equity client, and they are in search of an Interim Chief Financial Officer for their $500M+ Waste Management Services business that is undergoing a series of operational and financial process‑improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, scalability, and profitability. This is a hands‑on interim CFO role, where our interim will have responsibilities over the accounting and finance functions.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in tech‑enabled or technology‑driven services businesses, with demonstrated experience modernizing financial processes, implementing systems, and supporting an organization through operational transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

• Serve as the senior financial executive providing financial stewardship, strategic insight, and leadership during the transition period.

• Assess the current financial landscape and develop a prioritized action plan to strengthen financial operations, reporting, and controls.

• Partner with the CEO and executive team to refine the company’s financial strategy, capital needs, and go‑forward operating model.

Process Optimization & Systems Modernization

• Lead process‑improvement initiatives across finance, billing, pricing, procurement, and operational reporting.

• Evaluate legacy financial workflows and implement scalable, tech‑forward solutions to streamline operations.

• Oversee enhancements or implementations of financial systems (ERP, billing platforms, data dashboards) to drive automation, accuracy, and transparency.

Operational Finance & Performance Management

• Build or refine KPIs, dashboards, and management reporting to improve visibility into route profitability, cost drivers, customer economics, and recurring revenue performance.

• Strengthen unit economics and margin analysis, working cross‑functionally with operations, customer service, and fleet management.

• Improve budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and cash‑flow management processes.

Financial Controls, Governance & Compliance

• Conduct a rapid assessment of internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance posture; implement necessary improvements.

• Ensure timely and accurate monthly closes, audits, and regulatory filings.

• Develop frameworks for cost discipline, vendor management, and financial accountability across the organization.

• Lead and mentor the finance team, elevating capabilities and strengthening the team’s ability to support a growing, process‑driven operation.

• Serve as a strategic business partner to operational leaders, enabling data‑driven decisions and supporting organizational change.

• Prepare the company for a future permanent CFO transition by establishing a durable financial infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required

• Proven success as a Corporate (not Divisional) CFO for PE‑owned businesses with revenues of $250M+ in a tech‑enabled services, field services, logistics, waste management, or related operationally intensive sector.

• Experience leading financial process‑improvement, system modernization, or operational transformation initiatives.

• Strong command of financial planning, analysis, accounting, budgeting, and cash‑flow management.

• Prior experience working with private equity backed companies with direct line of communication to the sponsor.

• Availability to start in January and willing to commit to a 3‑6 month engagement. This opportunity will require weekly travel to Stamford, CT.
