Assistant Controller

Our client, a PE-backed company in the safety solutions sector, is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Controller to join their finance team in Stamford, CT.

This is a strategic finance role with direct management responsibilities, providing a unique opportunity to oversee a small accounting team while contributing to the company’s financial planning, reporting, and operational efficiency in a fast‑growing, PE‑backed environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Management:
Manage, mentor, and develop a small accounting team; set priorities, provide coaching, and support career development.

• Accounting Operations:
Oversee daily accounting functions including journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.

• Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and review financial statements, support budgeting and forecasting processes, and provide actionable insights to business leaders.

• Strategic Partnership:
Collaborate with department heads to support financial decision‑making, cost management, and operational improvements.

• Compliance & Controls:
Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Process Improvement & Systems:
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, implement best practices, and optimize accounting systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

•

Experience:

5+ years in accounting or finance, private/public mix or straight from public.

• Strong accounting background with a CPA preferred.

• Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and managing an accounting team.

• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a high‑performing team in a fast‑paced, PE‑backed environment.

• Comfortable contributing to both tactical and strategic finance initiatives.

• Compensation: $150K – $170K base + 10–15% bonus.
