Job Description

Summary:

The Behavioral Health Clinician II is an licensed independent provider who performs diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, develops care plans with clients and their families, offers individual, family, or group therapy as appropriate, collaborates with psychiatric and/or medical providers who are part of the client’s care team, and documents all clinical interventions in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations.

The position is primarily focused on direct client care but may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students.

Role And Responsibilities
  • Completes initial behavioral health evaluations; provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic. Expected to run at least five groups per week of direct clinical work.
  • Works as part of an interdisciplinary team, accepts referrals from primary care and other health care team members, and identifies patients who may need behavioral health services as flagged by the BH clinical dashboard.
  • Consults with providers within and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Shares in Behavioral Health On-Call duties for after-hours coverage and daily clinic calls.
  • Coordinates with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs and refers as necessary for medication management.
  • Attends clinical Team Meetings and Component Meetings; provides supervision of unlicensed Behavioral Health staff as assigned.
  • Meets productivity standards as outlined in annual performance appraisal with a focus on quality clinical care.
  • Encourages clients to express their feelings and discuss life situations to develop insight into themselves or their relationships.
  • Performs crisis interventions and assesses immediate safety concerns (e.g., risk of homicide, suicide, domestic violence).
  • Guides clients in developing skills and strategies to achieve identified goals; develops and implements treatment plans in line with state regulatory and Joint Commission standards.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing treatment and adapts approaches as client status changes.
  • Discusses post-therapy plans with individual patients and supports family members to assist in understanding and supporting clients.
  • Maintains awareness of new developments in the field and gathers information about community mental health resources to augment therapy.
Administrative
  • Completes all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health department timely, including intake, prior authorizations, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge notes.
  • Completes and locks treatment notes no later than the end of the next business day.
  • Completes reports for outside agencies with appropriate client releases signed.
  • Participates as a member of agency-wide committees as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D./Psy.

    D, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT degree; licensed in the State of Connecticut.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with outpatients including experience with children and/or adults.
  • Theoretical orientation consistent with brief, problem-focused therapy.
  • Reliable access to transportation for outside agency consults, meetings, and home visits.
  • Written and oral bilingual fluency preferred (e.g., English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements /Work Environment
  • Combination of sustained periods of sitting at a keyboard, walking, and stairs.
  • Minimal lifting and carrying activities.
  • Must be available to work one evening and one Saturday per month.
Communication Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; role interfaces with patients, families, community agencies, and other providers within the organization.
Confidentiality Of Information
  • Behavioral Health information is kept in strict confidence; confidentiality of patient and business information is required per CHC policies.
  • Respect for client data entry and access to medical system information.
