Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) – Med Surg Team
Stamford Health is looking for an Assistant Manager to join their Med Surg Team. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a clinical leadership position that provides clinical supervision and coordinates unit clinical operations with other departmental disciplines under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
Responsibilities- Supervises the daily delivery of patient care on the assigned unit/area.
- Executes all patient experience, safety, and patient care protocols including patient rounding, staff rounding for compliance, and patient safety surveillance.
- Supports activities related to patient throughput and Length of Stay (LOS).
- Provides real‑time coaching to support clinical effectiveness.
- Provides constructive feedback to employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions in collaboration with the nurse managers, and participates in monitoring for performance issues.
- Collaborates with leadership to support employee engagement and retention.
- Makes recommendations on cost‑saving opportunities.
- Prepares schedule of work assignments assuring appropriate coverage on all shifts.
- Consistently uses sound financial judgment in managing labor and non‑labor resources.
- Provides ongoing clinical evaluations of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers on the assigned unit/area as designated by the Nurse Manager.
- Provides support with new personnel on orientation, continuing education, and in‑service educational programs.
- Participates in interviewing, selecting, and appraising the performance of employees.
- Participates in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies, and research initiatives; participates in committees as assigned.
- Supports and promotes hospital‑wide and unit‑specific initiatives and goals (e.g., Planetree, Magnet, Joint Commission disease‑specific certifications).
- Facilitates communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments regarding issues related to patient care.
- Ensures continuity of patient care information between shifts, coordinates patient admitting, discharges, transfers, and other operational issues.
- Performs service recovery and communicates patient plan of care reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- At least 3 years recent clinical experience.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
- Clinical specialty or leadership certification strongly preferred.
- Recent clinical or leadership experience.
- Current CT RN License.
