Swim Instructor
Join the Chelsea Piers team as a part‑time Swim Instructor. We offer excellent facilities and opportunities for growth.
The OpportunityWe seek enthusiastic and reliable instructors to serve children in the evening and weekend sessions over a 12‑week trimester.
Compensation and SchedulePay: $18–$24 per hour commensurate with experience. Part‑time: 1 weekday evening (4:00–6:00 pm) and 1 weekend morning (8:00–12:00 pm).
Primary Responsibilities- Instruct swim classes in the water with safety and engagement at all levels.
- Follow the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum and demonstrate in‑water drills and the four competitive strokes confidently.
- Check in at the aquatic front desk ahead of time, set up teaching area, and start and finish each class on schedule.
- Structure classes based on swimmers’ skill level, communicate technical points clearly and age‑appropriately.
- Support fellow instructors, remain flexible for class needs or pool assignments.
- Prepare each lesson with knowledge of students’ abilities, track progress, and keep accessible lesson notes.
- Complete progress reports and report cards by program deadlines.
- Communicate private‑lesson procedures to clients, covering pricing, availability, and booking in Exerp.
- Participate in ongoing training as needed.
- Prior experience as a competitive swimmer or teaching swim lessons preferred, but not required.
- Ability to teach the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum effectively.
- Comfortable working with children of all ages and abilities.
- Work in and around water for at least 3.5 hours per session.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal abilities.
- Creative problem‑solving skills and quick adaptation in a dynamic environment.
- Capable of multitasking and making thoughtful, timely decisions under pressure.
- Proactive, responsive attitude with a strong sense of urgency.
- Physical ability to hold or carry children of all weights and lengths in the water as needed.
