We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded and expanding container haulage specialist operating from London Gateway, one of the UK’s most important deep‑sea ports. Our client has built an excellent reputation for operational efficiency, long‑term customer partnerships, and strong driver engagement.
The RoleThis is a key position within a busy and fast‑moving container operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective planning and execution of container movements from London Gateway, ensuring operational efficiency, legal compliance, and outstanding customer service. The role offers flexibility on working hours, with Monday‑to‑Friday shifts tailored to suit the candidate, making it an excellent opportunity for planners seeking work‑life balance without sacrificing responsibility or progression.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate container collections and deliveries from London Gateway.
- Manage daily and forward planning for a fleet of HGV drivers.
- Maximise vehicle and driver utilisation while maintaining compliance.
- Liaise with drivers, customers, ports, and shipping lines.
- Manage and monitor drivers’ hours, WTD, and legal requirements.
- Respond effectively to port delays, vessel changes, and operational challenges.
- Use transport management systems (TMS) to plan, track, and update movements.
- Maintain high service levels and support continuous operational improvement.
We are looking to speak with motivated and commercially aware transport planners who understand the demands of container haulage and port‑based logistics.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have- Proven experience as a Transport Planner within container haulage or port logistics.
- A solid understanding of port operations and container movements.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to work calmly and decisively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proactive, hands‑on approach with strong attention to detail.
- Salary between £35,000 and £80,000, depending on experience.
- Monday‑to‑Friday working pattern, with hours to suit the candidate.
