Description

Robert Bartlett, the W.A. Franke Professor of Law and Business at Stanford Law School and Professor of Finance (by courtesy) at Stanford Graduate School of Business, is recruiting a full‑time research fellow to work on projects related to venture capital finance, corporate governance, securities regulation and disclosure, and/or equity market structure. The position is aimed at individuals who have recently completed or will soon complete an undergraduate or master’s degree and are considering pursuing a Ph.D. or JD in the near future.

Fellows will be part of a vibrant community of scholars at Stanford Law School.

Duties Include
  • Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment, applying basic knowledge of empirical methodologies and models under faculty supervision.
  • Conceptualize suitable empirical methodologies and models.
  • Collect, manage, and structure quantitative datasets.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of complex datasets and interpret results.
  • Write reports and prepare manuscripts.
  • Participate in planning empirical projects.
  • Implement regression and other statistical models using Stata, R, SAS, or similar statistical programming languages.
  • Develop and administer surveys using validated variables and questions.
  • Conduct targeted literature searches on recent scholarship related to assigned research.
  • Communicate with high‑level officials, industry stakeholders, and research collaborators.
  • Assist in designing research findings for internal and external audiences through reports and manuscripts.
  • Formulate nationwide randomized controlled trials and create novel datasets on policy‑related research.
  • Identify, extract, and summarize data and structured information; present findings to faculty supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g., economics, finance, business, data science, statistics, or a related field). General understanding of theories and methods typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding academic credentials and intellectual creativity.
  • Eagerness to take initiative and solve intricate problems.
  • Experience with statistical analyses.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Excellent time‑management skills and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional research and analytical writing skills.
  • Programming experience in Stata, R, SAS, or similar statistical programming languages.
  • Prior experience with machine learning and natural language processing is a plus.

Pay and Benefits

Expected pay range: $31.40 to $38.89 per hour.
