Facial Pain and Complex Headache Specialist
The Division of Pain Medicine at Stanford University, within the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, is seeking a highly skilled Facial Pain and Complex Headache Specialist to join our team as a Clinical Instructor in the Clinician Educator Line. This position addresses the growing need for subspecialty care in facial pain and complex headache, the second most common chronic pain condition, across the Bay Area.
The major criterion for appointment as a Clinician Educator is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative responsibilities, and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
Key Responsibilities:- Specialized Pain Management: Diagnose and manage complex facial pain and headache conditions, including temporomandibular disorders (TMD), trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic facial pain, and chronic migraine.
- Interventional Procedures: Perform advanced pain management techniques, including nerve blocks, Botox injections, and image‑guided procedures for headache and facial pain syndromes.
- Multidisciplinary
Collaboration:
Work closely with neurologists, dentists, orofacial pain specialists, physical therapists, and other subspecialists to provide comprehensive patient care. - Education & Mentorship: Train and mentor medical students, residents, and pain medicine fellows in the evaluation and treatment of facial pain and headache disorders.
- Research & Innovation: Engage in research initiatives focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of facial pain and headache conditions.
- Clinical Expansion: Support the development of specialized programs at Redwood City to improve access to advanced pain care for patients across the region.
- MD with fellowship training in Pain Medicine, Neurology, or Orofacial Pain.
- Board certification or eligibility in Pain Medicine, Neurology, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
- Expertise in treating facial pain and headache disorders, including experience with interventional procedures.
- Strong teaching and mentoring capabilities.
- Commitment to interdisciplinary and patient‑centered care.
