About Us
The Healthcare AI Applied Research Team (HEA3RT) at Stanford Medicine is a nationally recognized leader in advancing the responsible, people-centered, and outcomes-driven use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Through research, implementation, and education, HEA3RT builds the bridge between cutting‑edge AI technologies and clinical practice. The Stanford AI Academy is a cornerstone of this work. Our mission is to equip practicing clinicians and healthcare staff with the knowledge and skills to confidently and responsibly use AI in care delivery, education, and research.
Unlike other offerings, AI Academy goes beyond awareness training to deliver a rigorous, clinically grounded curriculum that educates practicing clinicians across six domains:
- Foundational Knowledge (basics of AI/ML)
- Critical Appraisal of AI Tools
- Medical Decision-Making with AI
- Technical Use of AI
- Patient Communication with AI
- Awareness of Unintended Consequences of AI
The Instructional Designer will join the AI Academy team as a strategic partner, helping to shape the design, delivery, and evolution of our learning platform. Working closely with HEA3RT faculty and staff, this person will:
- Transform expert‑developed content into interactive e‑learning experiences that resonate with practicing clinicians and healthcare professionals.
- Design engaging modules, courses, and assessments using modern instructional design techniques that go beyond static slides and lectures.
- Leverage Docebo (our LMS) to deliver content in user‑friendly, accessible, and scalable formats.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to iterate on content, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment with clinical practice.
- Incorporate innovative approaches such as personalized learning pathways tailored to different learner archetypes (e.g., physicians, nurses, staff, administrators).
- Explore and integrate AI‑enhanced training methods that align with AI Academy’s vision of responsible innovation.
- Partner with HEA3RT faculty and staff to design, develop, and refine interactive learning content.
- Build modules that incorporate video, case studies, simulations, branching scenarios, and other active learning techniques.
- Structure and upload learning content into Docebo, ensuring seamless learner experience.
- Collaborate on iterative improvements through pilot feedback and learner engagement analytics.
- Ensure materials are accessible, visually appealing, and consistent with Stanford Medicine’s educational standards.
- Provide thought partnership on content strategy, including learner engagement and continuous improvement.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in instructional design, preferably in healthcare or academic medicine.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating engaging, interactive e‑learning content.
- Proficiency with modern instructional design tools and methodologies.
- Experience with Docebo (or similar LMS platforms).
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to work effectively with clinicians and staff in a complex academic environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in instructional design, education, or related field preferred. - Background in healthcare or medical education.
- Familiarity with responsible AI concepts and enthusiasm for contributing to a mission‑driven team.
