- Independently maintain, repair, and install sprinkler systems and landscape elements throughout the campus.
- Maintain decorative and landscape fountains while monitoring fountain water levels, circulation, and clarity.
- Identify issues and determine corrections for significant repairs or installations with minimal supervision.
- Consult with lead and/or supervisor to implement corrective actions and, when necessary, assume lead’s role during absence.
- Estimate materials and quantities needed on a daily basis; assist with project estimates and labor hour take‑offs.
- Install complete irrigation systems, filters, concrete pads, enclosures, and controller pedestals.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshoot irrigation control systems, including emergency response for irrigation-related problems.
- Adhere to safety rules and perform any additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years of sprinkler/irrigation and landscape experience (or equivalent education and experience).
- Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license.
- Ability to design and maintain landscape and irrigation projects from plans to completion with little or no guidance.
- Proficiency reading project plans and estimating materials.
- Working knowledge of water pressure, hydraulics, high/low flow systems, and basic electricity.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing controller valves, wiring, and other computer components in irrigation systems and fountains.
- Detailed knowledge of Stanford’s irrigation system design and component capabilities.
- Proficient in using computer programs for work orders and available equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Horticultural industry certification preferred.
- Computerized central control system training certification preferred.
- Confined space certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of placement preferred.
Additional Information
- Required to wear issued uniform.
- Ability to work safely in all outside weather conditions.
- May require overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Opportunity to drive day or night.
- May use jackhammer or trenching machine on rare occasions.
- May be exposed to noise >80 dB TWA and allergens, pollens, dust, fertilizers, pesticides, acids, alkalis, and disinfectants.
- Compliance with California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills and commitment to safety.
- Subject to all applicable university policies and the collective bargaining agreement.
The expected pay range for this position is $40.19 (Step
1) – $48.60 (Step 10) per hour, subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
