Position Overview
We are searching for an experienced, detail‑oriented, and customer‑service focused IT Support Specialist to join our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) Tools Team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The team supports the management of research and engineering data via Siemens Teamcenter and a suite of engineering design tools.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support to users for CAD software packages and Siemens Teamcenter PLM
- Diagnose, research, and resolve user issues in a timely manner through established protocols, robust communication, and troubleshooting; escalation as necessary
- Participate in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting, and support for applications and servers
- Provide appropriate access to applications, systems, and data
- Provide guidance and inform of policies/procedures to users, including training as necessary
- Implement security policies and protocols
- Utilize and maintain knowledge bases, white papers, FAQs, and vendor documentation
- Contribute to documentation of incidents, internal processes/procedures, and training manuals
- Assist in tracking and maintaining hardware and software inventory; interact with vendors
- May supervise a growing staff, including hiring, development, and performance management
- Oracle databases and application servers (e.g., Apache Tomcat)
- Helpdesk ticketing systems (e.g., Atlassian Jira)
- Strong analytical skills to achieve results when diagnosing and resolving technical issues
- Successful experience following established protocols and security procedures
- Success in environments where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective
- Associate's degrees in computer or specialized technology
- CAD tools and PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter)
- VMWare and virtual machine management
- Microsoft Office Product Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio
- Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher; may require background investigation
Your working location will be fully on‑site, located in State College, PA. Options may exist for hybrid on‑site / work‑from‑home depending on research needs. Questions about flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Minimum Education & Experience• For IT Support Specialist – Senior Support
:
Associate Degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• For IT Support Specialist – Intermediate Support
:
General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or high school and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications:
None for either level.
Employment with the University requires successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. All positions at ARL require candidates to obtain a government security clearance. Employment will also require a pre‑employment drug screen. You may be notified during the interview process if this position is subject to a government background investigation.
Salary & BenefitsThe salary range for this position, across all possible grades, is $46,400.00 – $74,000.00. The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.
