Veterans in Healthcare is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Evening shift with rotation in the Emergency Department.
Job SummaryThe RN will deliver professional nursing care for patients ranging from neonates through geriatrics, following the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards and using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Location & ScheduleState College, PA – On‑site. Full‑time, FTE 0.9, Evening shift with rotation.
Minimum Requirements- Completion of an accredited registered nurse program (BSN preferred).
- Completion of a sexual assault nurse examiner course within the first year of hire/transfer.
- Completion of a trauma nurse course within one year of assignment to the department.
- Previous RN experience preferred.
- Charge nurse qualification preferred.
- Effective team collaboration and liaison between patient and staff.
- Strong verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor, emotional tolerance, and sound judgment in dealing with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) – valid, renew every two years.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – obtained within four months of hire, renew every two years.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – obtained within six months of hire, renew every two years.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification – obtained within four months of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Institute Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training – obtained within three months of hire, renew annually.
- Triage all patients entering the ED, determining priorities based on physical and psychosocial needs; perform hourly rounding and document detailed nursing histories.
- Develop and continually update the plan of care, ensuring supplies and equipment are available, and include discharge planning with patient and family.
- Manage complications and emergencies per Mount Nittany Medical Center policies and ENA standards—recognize changes in patient status and direct appropriate care.
- Implement health education for patients and families, documenting understanding of treatment and referrals.
The RN will receive minimal supervision under the Administrative Director, ED. Supervision of other staff is limited to Charge Nurse duties.
