As a Java Software Engineer at Raytheon Technologies, you will design, develop, and test Java code in a Linux, Agile, Dev Ops environment for our Satellite Ground Systems teams. Your work will help ensure communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting‑edge satellite systems. This is an onsite position in State College, PA, requiring a U.S. Citizen and TS/SCI security clearance.
What you will do- Design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for Satellite Ground Systems.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high‑performance solutions.
- Write, modify, and refactor existing code, implementing new features as needed.
- Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability across all components.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
- Contribute to program and project milestones under the guidance of the immediate supervisor.
- Follow established software processes, development documentation, and maintenance/management procedures.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in Java and satellite technology to drive innovation.
- Initially may serve as a limited part‑time role during the clearance process; full‑time work commences once TS/SCI clearance is approved.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
- 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
- Experience in object‑oriented software design and development using Java in a Linux environment, including unit testing tools such as JUnit.
- Experience with scripting languages.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containers, and the Spring Framework.
- Security certification.
- Experience using the Atlassian tool suite.
- Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices in a defense or aerospace setting.

- Salary range: 55,000 USD – 107,000 USD (good faith estimate).
