Department Information

Within this setting, the Department of Communication Arts is home to five undergraduate majors:
Communication Studies, Multimedia Journalism, Multimedia and Film Production, Public Relations, and Theatre. The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Leadership. The Department's mission is to provide students with a broad-based, comprehensive, and interdisciplinary study of human communication. Within Georgia Southern University's culture of engagement, the Communication Arts faculty promote the critical analysis, evaluation, performance, and practice of human communication in its various contexts.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Communication Arts Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Communication Studies will teach a combination of upper and lower division courses, maintain a research agenda, hold regular office hours, attend department meetings, and contribute service to the institution. The position is a 10 month, tenure-track appointment.

Required Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D in Communication Studies, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication Studies, by July 15, 2026.
• Demonstrated record of successful teaching experience.
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multimodal course delivery and learning management systems.
• College/university teaching experience.

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
