Department Information
The College of Education, with more than 100 faculty members who are experts in their fields, prepares students in an environment exemplified by a free exchange of ideas, high academic expectations, and individual responsibility for academic achievement. Within this setting, the Department of Curriculum, Foundations, and Reading, one of four departments within the College of Education, includes 27 full-time faculty members in five areas: educational foundations, educational psychology, curriculum studies, literacy studies/reading education, and educational research.
The Department offers undergraduate and graduate level courses and multiple graduate programs, including a master's degree and educational specialist's degree in reading education and a doctoral degree in curriculum studies. The current Educational Research faculty members provide comprehensive support for the college's undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching, advising, and mentoring. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the college's goal of continued excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and outreach.
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor of Educational Research will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory and advanced research methods. The majority of educational research courses are offered fully online; doctoral classes are offered in a hybrid format with on-campus or online synchronous meetings 3-4 weekends per semester. This individual is also expected to supervise graduate student research as a member of Ed.S. and Ed.D. committees, engage in productive scholarship in the discipline, and provide service at all levels of the university and to the profession.
The position is an academic (10 month), tenure-track appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Educational Research, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Educational Research, by August 1, 2026
- Coursework in and experience with research methods with a specialization in one or more of the following areas: quantitative methods/statistics, qualitative research, or mixed methods research
- Willingness to teach online courses
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate student research
- Commitment to using technology in teaching and scholarship
- Evidence of an emerging research agenda
- Potential for securing extramural funding for research and/or training
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
- Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department, college, and university
