Athletic Coach - Head Baseball at IREDELL-STATESVILLE SCHOOLS
Applications are open for the Head Baseball Coach position. The role requires the qualifications and responsibilities outlined below.
Qualifications- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
- Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of baseball.
- Continuously examines new theories and procedures pertinent to the sport.
- Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes.
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach also mentors student-athletes in socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment. The coach is expected to upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
General Responsibilities- The success of athletic programs greatly influences community image; public exposure is a considerable responsibility, and community/parent pressure for winning must not override sportsmanship and mental health objectives.
- The position includes unusual aspects such as extended time, risk of injury, and due process predicaments.
- In cases not specifically covered, the coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.
- Established the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings for program awareness.
- Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by promoting clinic attendance in accordance with local policy.
- Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and analyses staff effectiveness at season’s end to evaluate assistants.
- Maintains discipline, addresses grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Performs any additional duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
- Assists the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Prepares scheduled sport events or practices, adhering to facility times and coordinating with maintenance and school employees.
- Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Provides safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
- Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
- Serves as a mentor, promoting trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship traits.
- Monitors student athlete grades and conduct.
- Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards at all practices, games, and travel.
- Teaches training rules and unique sport regulations to each participant.
- Initiates injury, medical, and emergency policies and procedures.
- Completes injury paperwork on disabled athletes and submits within 24 hours.
- Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Determines discipline, delineates due‑process procedures, and coordinates parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
- Assists athletes in college or advanced education selection.
- Participates in budgeting with the athletic director, establishing requirements for the upcoming season and recommending equipment guidelines.
- Operates within budget appropriations and collects costs for lost or unreturned equipment.
- Issues, stores, and reconditions equipment, submitting annual inventory and current records.
- Marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
- Monitors equipment rooms and coach offices, authorizes who may enter, issue, or requisition equipment.
- Permits athletes to access authorized areas at appropriate times.
- Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness and maintenance.
- Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks when custodians are not present.
- Instills respect for equipment and school property among players.
- Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
- Promotes the sport within the school, recruiting athletes not involved in other sports, and promotes outside the school through news media and youth leagues.
- Ensures the quality, effectiveness, and validity of oral or written releases to local media.
- Maintains good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
- Presents information to media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.
