About Liberty Point Behavioral HealthcareLiberty Point Behavioral Healthcare seeks a certified Special Education Teacher for Liberty Point Academy in Staunton, Virginia. The school provides trauma‑informed psychiatric residential treatment for adolescent males with complex emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. The 42‑bed program supports students returning to community or independent living.
Responsibilities- Provide developmentally appropriate classroom instruction per IEP/IPP goals.
- Implement the Behavioral Program, assess and document behavior progress, adjust strategies with the treatment team.
- Assess academic achievement, adjust instruction to maximize student achievement.
- Maintain communication with staff, parents, and education agencies; complete accurate records and reports.
- Participate in professional development and training.
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
- Current Virginia or out‑of‑state teaching license in Special Education or General K‑12; or Special Education conditional license with plan to obtain professional license.
- Minimum 21 years old.
- Preferred: ≥3 years classroom experience.
- Preferred:
Valid Virginia driver’s license.
- VA Standards of Learning subject matter.
- Learning and teaching theories, modifications, accommodations.
- Effective teaching methods, classroom management, assessment principles.
- Observation and data‑collection techniques.
- Lesson presentation, instruction planning, classroom expectations, behavior management, positive relationships.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Complete Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training and first aid/CPR.
- Maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively, reflect appropriate behavior.
