• The System Administrator 4 is responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
• This role supports the Transportation Operations Center and ensures systems adhere to Commonwealth policies, standards, and security guidelines while providing Tier 1 through Tier 3 support.

• Respond to Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 support requests.
• Provide exceptional customer service to users with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Communicate effectively with teammates and customers.
• Respond to break/fix requests associated with end-user resources.
• Configure and deploy Linux (Red Hat) and Windows server operating systems.
• Configure and deploy desktop and laptop equipment and associated peripherals.
• Install new servers and rebuild existing servers according to standards and operational requirements.
• Configure hardware, services, directories, storage, and system settings.
• Perform daily system monitoring to verify integrity and availability of servers, hardware, and services.
• Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including backups.
• Perform daily backup operations and manage file archival and purge activities.
• Monitor system resources and identify server or service anomalies.
• Resolve connectivity issues between users and system resources.
• Create, modify, and delete user accounts as requested.
• Maintain detailed change management records and system documentation.
• Maintain accurate inventory and maintenance records.
• Apply operating system patches, upgrades, and administrative tool updates regularly.
• Perform security monitoring to identify potential intrusions.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives including threat hunting and mitigation.
• Diagnose and recover from hardware or software failures.
• Coordinate issue resolution with impacted stakeholders.
• Configure and add new services as required.
• Support GIS and Asset Management applications as required by operational or project needs.
• Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
• Produce periodic performance and capacity reports.
• Manage time and resources effectively to meet operational objectives.

• 3 to 5 years of experience as a Systems Administrator.
• Experience supporting Tier 1 through Tier 3 environments.
• Strong experience with Linux (Red Hat) and Windows server administration.
• Strong troubleshooting and break/fix support experience.
• Experience with system monitoring, backups, and patch management.

• Systems administration engineering, provisioning, operations, and support.
• Server installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• Security monitoring and cybersecurity support activities.
• User account administration and access management.

• Experience supporting Transportation Operations Center environments.
• Experience with GIS or Asset Management applications.
• Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning.

• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and work independently or collaboratively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and resource constraints effectively.

• Relevant technical education or equivalent professional experience in systems administration.
