Primary Purpose
The University of Niagara Falls Canada is in search of a versatile and experienced Courseware developer. As a courseware developer you will report to the Director:
Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and work closely with the developing CTE team, including the Senior Instructional Designer, and other academic and administrative units across the UNF community, in the development of interactive and research-grounded multimedia educational elements in UNF courses and programs. The collaborative nature of this work necessitates that the courseware developer must have excellent soft skills to work effectively on project teams to support course and program development.

Coupled with these collaborative skills, the courseware developer will bring with them the ability to use their knowledge to innovate, work independently on multiple projects at one time, and lead the CTE team in its development of best practice multimedia development and data gathering strategies to support the advancement of UNF and its technologically grounded programs. They will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and be proactive in their approach to identifying and addressing potential challenges.

Course Developer Per course rate: $7,200 (paid in installments 10 week contract)

Specific Responsibilities

Design and develop interactive and engaging courseware aligned with instructional objectives.

Create and develop course materials and curriculum that aligns with the learning objectives.

Design and develop interactive e-learning modules, videos, simulations, and assessments.

Utilize eLearning authoring tools to create multimedia-rich content.

Integrate multimedia elements, including graphics, animations, and videos, to enhance courseware interactivity.

Manage multiple courseware development projects concurrently.

Conduct comprehensive quality assurance reviews to validate accuracy, completeness, and adherence to course design standards.

Develop project plans, track progress, and meet project deadlines.

Work closely with the project team to understand training needs, objectives, and project timelines.

Participate in project meetings, providing insights on courseware development strategies.

Continuously research and stay abreast of industry trends, emerging educational technologies, and instructional design methodologies where relevant.

Apply innovative approaches to courseware development to enhance the overall learning experience.

Ensure compatibility and responsiveness across various devices and platforms.

Ensure accessibility and responsive design for all elements integrated in the LMS.

Centre For Teaching Excellence

Collaborate with CTE colleagues to develop and build courses, workshops, and interactives to support faculty development.

Support the overall mission of CTE to support the development of programs, courses, and faculty support at UNF.

In collaboration with CTE colleagues, represent CTE in program development project teams.

Skills

Ability to design structured, engaging literature courses focused on reading, discussion, and analysis.

Skill in developing lectures, reading guides, and discussion prompts that foster critical thinking.

Experience creating assessments such as essays, reflections, and presentations.

Strong written communication skills, with the ability to model effective academic writing.

Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle).

Ability to scaffold learning from foundational interpretation to advanced analysis.

Experience integrating multimedia resources (e.g., recorded plays, author talks) into course delivery.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in aligning learning outcomes, content, and assessments.

Ability to collaborate with faculty and adapt course content to program-specific needs (e.g., HBBA context).

Competencies

Strong knowledge of contemporary literary movements (e.g., postmodern, postcolonial, global literature).

Solid grounding in narrative theory, literary criticism, and dramatic analysis.

Familiarity with a range of genres, including novels, short fiction, and modern theatre.

Understanding of key authors, texts, and critical debates in contemporary literature.

Awareness of cultural, social, and political contexts influencing literary works.

Knowledge of inclusive and decolonized approaches to teaching literature in a Canadian context.

Understanding of academic writing standards at the undergraduate level.

Education And Experience

Master’s or PhD in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or a related field.

Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design within literature or humanities.
