Location: St. Catharines
Position Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator – PSYC 2P01 Roadmap to Careers in Psychology. The appointment runs from September 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025. The posting ends on July 13, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
Compensation Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to qualifications. Employees without a 4‑year honours degree or 3‑year pass degree receive the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour effective September 1, 2026. Employees holding a 4‑year honours degree or a 3‑year pass degree receive the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour effective September 1, 2026. Additional duties may be compensated at the appropriate TA rate.
Responsibilities Attend scheduled TA meetings.
Grade assignments and discussion forum posts in a timely manner, providing supportive and instructive written feedback.
Hold office hours and respond to student emails outside scheduled contact time.
Maintain accurate records.
Help students overcome difficulties related to the course material.
Carry out other related duties as assigned by the instructor.
Qualifications Completed or currently enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52/61/62/71/72 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53/61/62/63/71/72/73, or 5F01 within the previous five years; OR a 3rd‑year student in a PSYC BA or BSc program with an average of at least 85 who has taken this course within the previous five years and achieved a grade of at least 80. Prior TA experience in this course is considered equivalent.
Clear and thorough understanding of all course aspects to effectively explain all topics.
Strong writing and editing skills and thorough understanding of APA writing style.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Interpersonal qualities to support students and lead group discussion.
Strong organizational skills and ability to keep accurate records and manage data.
Excellent time‑management skills to mark student work within a constrained turnaround time.
Adept at providing constructive feedback to students.
Willing to present material and conduct seminars remotely.
Willing to maintain contact with the instructor, fellow teaching assistants, and students by email and audio‑video conferencing, and conduct seminars and office hours via audio‑video conferencing.
