Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ per hour.
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The nominal workload for this position is 10 hours per week (6 hours demonstrating, 4 hours of marking and lab preparation). Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. Under the direction of the course Instructor, the incumbent is required to present an introduction to the lab, demonstrate proper use of the photo equipment and software, teach and assist students during the lab, maintain safe lab conditions, be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup, mark lab assignments, sign-out photo/survey equipment to students, offer online help to students and attend meetings as needed.
Qualifications
The applicant must either have taken ERSC/GEOG 3P92 and/or submit a digital portfolio for review that demonstrates an equivalent skill set (, small object photography, 3D model production, photogrammetry and the use of Adobe Photoshop and Agisoft Metashape Pro software). As a minimum, the incumbent must have an undergraduate degree in Earth Sciences (or equivalent*) or be enrolled in a graduate program in the geosciences.
* Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor. Applicants must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
