RECL2P16 Outdoor Recreation Theory and Practices I

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ hour. 

  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ hour. 

  • Duties

    Reporting to the Department Chair or Course Instructor, the duties and responsibilities of the Course Coordinator will bein accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. These include overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course; coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them; assisting in the preparation of marking schemes and coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams;

    and any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor.

    Qualifications

    The position requires broad experience in Recreation and Leisure Studies. Must have previous experience in demonstrating laboratories and supervising other demonstrators. Must have a(n) RECL. Must have leadership and organizational skills with ability to assign duties to demonstrators and troubleshoot in the laboratory setting. Safety is a major issue in these labs and the incumbent must be able to detect potential hazards and have the ability and skills to rapidly and appropriately deal with problems as they occur.
