4207-1 (Employee Group) Title of Course DASA 3P31 Data Visualization and Intelligence Compensation Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
This course provides an introduction to data visualization and business intelligence, with a focus on the practical application of data preparation and visualization techniques using tools such as Excel, Power BI, and Tableau. Students will explore data connections, shaping, and mapping for spatial visualization. Emphasis will be placed on effective design, storytelling with data, and the creation of dashboards and story points.

Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
The Collective Agreement governs part‑time Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Lab Demonstrator, Course Coordinator and Marker‑Grader positions at Brock University. The Agreement can be accessed on the Office of People & Culture website
- Minimum Qualification Master’s degree in one of the following fields:
Data Science
Computer Science
Data Analytics
Business Analytic
Or a closely related discipline
Required Experience and Skills Knowledge of business intelligence tools, including: Excel (with a strong command of pivot tables, data shaping, and advanced charting)
Power BI or Tableau (including dashboard and story point design)
Knowledge of data storytelling and visualization principles, with the ability to teach effective visual communication using data
Preferred Qualifications Prior university‑level teaching Assistantship experience in data visualization, analytics, or business intelligence
Familiarity with spatial data visualization techniques, including map‑based tools
Ability to design and evaluate interactive dashboards for business or organizational decision‑making
