This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE
4207-1 (Employee Group) Compensation Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2026) Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2026)
Duties   Reporting to the Department Chair or Course Instructor
Overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course.
Coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them.
Assisting in the preparation of marking schemes and coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams.
Any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor.
Qualifications   The position requires broad experience in Biological Sciences.
Must have previous experience in demonstrating laboratories and supervising other demonstrators.
Must have Labster Experience
Must have a Biological Sciences degree.
Must have leadership and organizational skills with ability to assign duties to demonstrators and troubleshoot in the laboratory setting.
Safety is a major issue in these labs and the incumbent must be able to detect potential hazards and have the ability and skills to rapidly and appropriately deal with problems as they occur.
Additional Comments  Positions listed on this posting are subject to course enrolments and budgetary approval. As per Article 22.04 of the Collective Agreement:
Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time. The Collective Agreement governs part‑time Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Lab Demonstrator, Course Coordinator and Marker‑Grader positions at Brock University.
