JOB OVERVIEWOntario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical & Control Technician/Technologist.
Reporting to the Senior Protection & Controls Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining and overhauling all electrical, electronic, control, protection and telecommunication systems associated with generating stations and facilities.
KEYACCOUNTABILITIES
- Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain, overhaul, and assist in the design of electrical, electronic, control, protection, telecommunication, and testing equipment for generating stations and facilities.
- Prepare and maintain technical sketches, drawings, bills of material, and related documentation for electrical, control, instrumentation, protection, and telecommunication systems.
- Participate in large or complex projects, including new installations and technology upgrades, ensuring quality by providing feedback during design reviews and through commissioning and testing.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, SCADA and HMI systems, gateways, protocol converters, and field devices.
- Setup, install, and connect servers, network switches, routers, and network cables; maintain and repair communication systems.
- Commission, program, perform field testing, and generate compliance testing reports on electronic protection relays.
- Participate in investigations and studies with respect to system reliability and production improvements.
- Ensure safe work practices, maintain skills and knowledge of the Work Protection Code and health and safety guidelines, and adhere to all relevant requirements.
- Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum 2-year college diploma in a related field of study.*
- 5+ years of experience as an electrical and control technician/technologist
- Preference to applicants with experience programming and troubleshooting Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro
- Preference to applicants experienced with practical and theoretical aspects of protective relaying and electrical fault analysis
- Work as part of a team in a fast paced, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines and expected high level of detail
- Have exceptional problem-solving abilities
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Days based position, but flexibility required to work weekends as necessary
- Be eligible to work in Canada
