We are looking for an experienced and self‑motivated individual to fill the 2nd Class Power Engineer Relief position at our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Thorold, Ontario.

Essential

Job Duties

Provides coverage for Shift Engineer or Assistant Shift Engineer for vacations, illness, training or other absences as required (See Shift and Assistant Shift Engineers’ Job descriptions)

Permits maintenance for department equipment.

Performs routine maintenance checks.

Diagnose problems and determine possible solutions on equipment.

Solves equipment problems if possible for minor repairs.

Provides advice and prepares equipment for maintenance.

Issues both QPA and DPA permits.

Maintains daily log sheets, operational data and charts for purposes of record keeping as legislated.

Ensures that all work performed is in accordance with plant Safety policies and procedures and Environmental standards.

Ensures that general housekeeping and minor maintenance is performed within the Utilities departments.

Assists in developing, updating and proofing departmental procedures.

Performs extra testing, draw downs, adjustments and isolations as required.

Performs routine checks, inspections and maintenance. Examples change filter socks, cleaning R/O unit, inspecting filters.

Follows the procedures for the ISO 9001 Program to meet OCC’s quality policies of conducting business that exceed the expectations and needs of our customers in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Qualifications

Education:

Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer’s License, knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels and fuels. Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations. Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience. Strong knowledge of power generation / transmission technology, water and waste water treatment including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment.

Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power‑point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet. SAP knowledge / experience would be an asset. High level of problem solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills. Ability to work independently and within a team is required.

Experience:

Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management.
