This role offers the opportunity to support advanced marine automation and propulsion control systems while working closely with customers and internal teams. The Field Service Engineer plays a key role in ensuring system reliability through technical service, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities both onboard vessels and through remote support.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, the Field Service Engineer will provide technical support for automation and propulsion control systems, ensuring consistent system performance and service delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on automation and propulsion control systems onboard vessels.
Troubleshooting electrical and control system issues using diagnostic tools and software platforms.
Interpreting system drawings and technical documentation to resolve technical challenges.
Supporting power management systems, generators, governor controls, and AC/DC motor systems.
Modifying control logic and supporting PLC/SCADA configurations as required.
Providing remote technical support via phone and email.
Preparing accurate service documentation, reports, timesheets, and expense submissions.
Collaborating with internal engineering and product teams to communicate technical findings and customer feedback.
Identifying potential system improvements or upgrade opportunities during service visits.
Ensuring compliance with company, safety, and regulatory standards.
Travelling domestically and internationally (approximately 50–70%) to support customer requirements.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in electrical and electronic control systems and demonstrates sound judgment, analytical capability, and professionalism in client-facing environments.
Qualifications and experience include:
Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent industry or military training).
1 – 2 years of experience is considered to be an asset.
Knowledge of electrical control system principles, including PID controllers and communication protocols (CAN, TCP/IP, RS-232/422/485).
Experience in troubleshooting low-voltage electrical components.
Familiarity with PLC and SCADA systems and control system architecture is preferred.
Ability to interpret technical documentation and system drawings.
Strong communication skills and proficiency in English (French considered an asset).
Valid passport and authorization to work in Canada and the United States without sponsorship.
Availability to travel on short notice, including evenings, weekends, and extended assignments as required.
