Fire Training Officer

The Town of Lincoln is looking to hire a Training Officer for its fire and rescue service. Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, the Training Officer supports the fire department’s mission to provide effective public safety services to the community by ensuring the delivery of relevant and high-quality training to staff in accordance with fire service standards and in compliance with provincial regulations and municipal by-laws. This position manages the operation of the Training Division in a team environment, including the development and delivery of training, staff development, and technical rescue programs to ensure the health and safety of staff and to meet departmental goals and objectives.

• Post‑secondary education in Fire Science or Fire Protection Technology or a related field, or a combination of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all aspects of this position successfully.
• NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level I & II certification.
• NFPA 1002 Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator certification.
• NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue Technician Level certifications in Surface Water Rescue, Ice Water Rescue, and Rope Rescue, or ability to obtain upon appointment.
• NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer certification, or ability to obtain upon appointment.
• NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Operations Level certification.
• Minimum of five (5) years as a firefighter in a municipal fire department with significant structural firefighting and technical rescue experience.
• Experience providing live fire, technical rescue, and hazardous materials training.
• Experience developing, delivering, reviewing, and updating fire service training programs.
• Knowledge of fire behaviour, building construction, fire alarm and suppression systems, personnel accountability and incident management systems, principles, strategies, tactics, techniques, and resources for fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials and emergency operations.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation, regulations, codes, by‑laws, standards, industry practices, departmental operating guidelines, policies and procedures, Occupational Health & Safety Act duties and responsibilities and Section 21 Firefighters Guidance Notes.
• Knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of fire service apparatus and equipment.
• Knowledge of adult education practices, teaching techniques, development of training programs, lesson plans, preparing and presenting lectures, demonstrations, and drills.
• Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs to meet legislation and applicable regulatory, municipal and industry standards.
• Abilities in a variety of learning media including electronic presentation technologies, on‑line learning technologies, videoconferencing, e‑learning tools and applications.
• Ability to prioritize competing work demands and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
• Ability to be solution‑oriented, use good judgement to analyze problems, develop sound alternatives, and make effective decisions and/or recommendations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
