Hatch is seeking a dynamic Structural Engineering Trainee to join their Engineering Delivery, Structural group, providing engineering services to large and small projects. The role is responsible for the analysis and design of structures for hydropower, dam, and heavy industrial settings. Reporting to the Structural Discipline Lead Engineer, the trainee will support projects globally while working from the Niagara Falls office.
Key Responsibilities
Apply engineering principles to perform calculations for structural analysis and design of industrial buildings and equipment support structures and foundations.
Collaborate with senior members of the discipline and other Hatch groups to share results of work.
Prepare calculation reports and engineering documents for internal and external stakeholders.
Develop knowledge of structural analytical software and tools, building codes, material design codes, discipline workflows, and systems for building and equipment structures and foundations.
Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed.
Travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites, including remote locations, as required.
Education and Experience
Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and expected to graduate in 2026 or have recently graduated.
Strong academic performance while actively involved in extracurricular or volunteer activities.
Required academic courses:
Structural Analysis, Structural Mechanics, Reinforced Concrete Design, Structural Steel Design, Foundation Design.
Advanced courses such as Hydropower and Dam Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis are advantageous.
Experience with relevant co‑op, summer work terms, or internships in structural engineering is an asset.
Experience with structural software such as SAP
2000, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS, LS‑Dyna, Abaqus, CAD software, and MathCAD is an asset.

Compensation
Range: $84,000 – $90,000
Compensation is based on current market data and aligns with internal pay structures and individual experience, skills, and qualifications. The total rewards package may include performance‑based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs supporting well‑being and growth.
