Blockman

A renowned farm stall and tourist stop in the Elgin Valley is looking for an experienced Blockman to join their butchery team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, reliable and experienced Blockman who has a good knowledge of meat cuts and practical experience in a commercial butchery environment. The successful candidate should be confident operating standard butchery equipment and take pride in maintaining high standards of product quality, hygiene and cleanliness.

• Cutting and preparing lamb and other meat products according to required specifications
• Operating a band saw, particularly for lamb cutting
• Operating a meat mincer and sausage stuffer
• Assisting with sausage production
• Assisting with the production of biltong and droëwors
• Maintaining high standards of product quality, hygiene and food safety
• Cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas
• Assisting with general butchery production and customer service as required
• Working efficiently to meet daily production requirements

• Previous experience as a Blockman or in a commercial butchery environment
• Good practical knowledge of different meat cuts
• Experience operating a band saw, mincer and sausage stuffer
• Experience with sausage, biltong and droëwors production
• Good understanding of butchery hygiene and food-handling practices
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work independently
• Sober habits are essential
• Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays
• Living in Grabouw, Botrivier or the surrounding area is essential

This is a hands-on butchery position and applicants must have practical commercial butchery experience and be confident operating the required equipment.

• The position requires weekend work
• One weekday off per week
• Sundays and public holidays will be paid at double pay
• Working hours will be in line with the operational requirements of the farmstall and butchery
