Position: Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)
Location: St. Catharines

Position Overview  Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) – Casual Position Available – Hourly rate $37.07–$39.01. Works at Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Niagara Region.
Primary Responsibilities   Provides nursing care through the application of the nursing process, including conducting assessments, developing and implementing individualized nursing care plans, providing education, and evaluation.
Acts as a resource and provides leadership to other health care providers and unregulated health care aides, assigning tasks within scope of practice and offering guidance and support as needed.
Coordinates seamless delivery of care to patients and their families, assisting them in accessing the health care system, moving through the system, and discharging from the system, and coordinating referral of patients to the appropriate members of the professional health care team.
Maintains clear and accurate nursing Focus documentation in accordance with Documentation Standards, ensuring Transfer of Accountability is achieved and maintained at all transfer points.
Consults with Registered Nurse in interpreting clinical information from sources such as physician orders, patient charts, and patient/client histories and collaborates with the RN when care needs are outside the RPN scope of practice.
Promotes, maintains, and improves personal clinical skills by identifying learning needs, seeking appropriate resources, participating in in‑services and hospital‑based educational programs, attending applicable conferences or courses, and maintaining current records of continuing education activities.
Adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, and Hospital Policies to promote employee and patient safety.
Performs other job duties as required.

Possesses organizational and planning skills, capable of working independently and completing multiple concurrent tasks.
Acts as a patient/client advocate, encouraging others to be receptive to patient needs.
Practices person‑centred care by considering the patient/client perspective before taking action.
Seeks information to understand patient needs, develops an appropriate plan of care, and follows up to ensure all needs are met effectively.
Assists patients, family members, or other clients with concern and empathy, respecting confidentiality and privacy, communicating courteously and respectfully.
Ensures safety of self, patient, families, volunteers, and team members by adhering to HDSHRC policies and procedures.
Possesses English language verbal and literacy skills sufficient to understand instructions.
Successful Candidate Will Possess   Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Training in BCLS.
2 years of related clinical experience within the last 6 years.
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of physical assessment;
Physical Assessment course preferred.
Current understanding and knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology of disease preferred.
Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) considered an asset.
Hours of Work  The successful candidate will work onsite at HDS, Sunday – Sunday, with 4‑, 8‑, and 12‑hour shifts. Shifts include days, evenings, and nights. Overtime may be required.
Incumbent will be required to write and pass a medication competency test.
