About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their specialist team supporting mining operations near Paarl. You will provide expert advice and solutions related to slope stability, ground support, and overall rock mechanics to ensure the safety and stability of mine infrastructure and workings. This role is essential for assessing and mitigating geotechnical risks associated with both open-pit and underground mining environments.

You will collaborate closely with mine planners, geologists, and operations personnel, utilizing advanced analytical techniques and site investigations to deliver practical and effective geotechnical recommendations, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of mining activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Perform detailed stability analyses for open‑pit slopes, underground excavations, and mine waste facilities.
  • Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring programs.
  • Assess seismic hazards and provide mitigation strategies for mining operations.
  • Review and approve geotechnical aspects of mine designs and operational plans.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and provide technical guidance to project teams.
Requirements
  • BSc/BEng or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining sector.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, Geo‑Studio).
  • Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and engineering geology principles.
  • Experience with site investigation techniques and data interpretation.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills for effective collaboration in the Paarl area.
