Mechanical Design Engineer - Consumer Electronics

About the Role Our client, a rapidly expanding leader in the consumer electronics sector, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of innovative and high-quality electronic products in Stellenbosch, Western Cape
. This role is pivotal in translating product concepts into tangible, manufacturable designs, focusing on performance, aesthetics, and user experience. You will be responsible for the entire mechanical design lifecycle, from initial concept generation and CAD modeling to prototyping, testing, and production support. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio in consumer product design, an eye for detail, and a passion for creating user-centric devices.

• Design and develop mechanical components and enclosures for consumer electronic devices.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and assembly documentation using CAD software.
• Conduct design analysis, including thermal management, structural integrity, and tolerance stack-up.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic appeal.
• Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and software teams.
• Manage prototyping and testing phases to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.
• Work with manufacturing partners to ensure successful production and quality control.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that arise during development or production.
• Stay abreast of emerging materials, manufacturing technologies, and design trends in consumer electronics.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong emphasis on consumer electronics or product design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Fusion 360, Creo).
• Experience with material selection, plastic injection molding, and metal fabrication processes.
• Familiarity with thermal analysis and simulation tools.
• Understanding of electromechanical integration and miniaturization techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, R&D-focused environment.
• Experience with regulatory compliance and testing for consumer products is a plus.
