Packaging Engineer

Our client, a major player in consumer goods manufacturing, is seeking a creative and technically proficient Packaging Engineer for their facility located in Paarl, Western Cape
. This role is crucial for designing, developing, and implementing innovative packaging solutions that enhance product protection, market appeal, and cost-effectiveness. The Packaging Engineer will work with cross-functional teams, including marketing, production, and supply chain, to bring new packaging concepts from ideation to commercialization. This is a hands‑on role for an individual passionate about materials science, sustainability, and cutting‑edge packaging technologies, operating within the vibrant Paarl, Western Cape industrial hub.

• Design and develop new packaging concepts and specifications for a range of products.
• Conduct material testing and performance evaluations to ensure packaging integrity and functionality.
• Optimize existing packaging designs for cost reduction, sustainability, and efficiency.
• Collaborate with suppliers to source appropriate packaging materials and components.
• Work closely with production teams to ensure seamless integration of new packaging into manufacturing lines.
• Develop and execute packaging trials and validation plans.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new materials, and sustainable packaging innovations.
• Ensure packaging designs comply with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
• Create technical drawings, prototypes, and documentation for packaging projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging design and development, preferably in a consumer goods or manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of packaging materials, printing technologies, and conversion processes.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) and packaging design software.
• Experience with packaging testing methods and equipment.
• Knowledge of sustainability principles and eco-friendly packaging solutions.
• Excellent project management and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes in the Paarl, Western Cape region is an asset.
