Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Our client, a highly respected geotechnical engineering firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape
. This role is crucial for delivering expert geotechnical solutions for a diverse range of projects, including commercial buildings, residential developments, and infrastructure. You will be responsible for leading complex analyses, designing foundations, retaining structures, and providing site investigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and advanced design software, coupled with strong project management skills.

• Lead the geotechnical design for foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, and earthworks.
• Plan, manage, and interpret extensive geotechnical site investigations.
• Perform advanced numerical modelling and analysis of soil and rock behavior.
• Develop detailed geotechnical reports, including design recommendations and risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and international codes.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate geotechnical solutions.
• Oversee the quality control of geotechnical aspects during construction.
• Prepare proposals and contribute to business development efforts.
• Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering practice and technology.
• Conduct peer reviews of designs and calculations.

• BSc/BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant post-graduate experience in geotechnical design and investigation.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Expert proficiency in geotechnical design and analysis software (e.g., Plaxis, Geo Studio, Rocscience suite).
• In-depth knowledge of South African geological conditions and construction practices.
• Proven experience in managing complex geotechnical projects and client relationships.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership qualities and the ability to mentor team members.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a Hybrid environment.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake site visits in Stellenbosch and beyond.
