Junior Accountant

Junior Accountant position available in Stellenbosch.

Responsibilities

• Drafting Management Accounts for review by senior management.
• Processing complex journals (depreciation, accruals, prepayments, salaries).
• Reviewing the processing work done by the Finance Administrators to ensure accuracy.
• Balance Sheet reconciliation (ensuring all control accounts balance).
• VAT:
  Reviewing reports in Xero, identifying non-compliant invoices, calculating VAT liability, and drafting VAT
  201 returns.
• PAYE:
  Reconciling payroll journals to EMP
  201s.
• Income Tax:
  Assisting with the drafting of provisional tax calculations (IT6) and income tax returns (IT14/IT12).
• Liaising with SARS regarding queries and disputes.
• Answering technical queries from clients regarding tax allowability or classification.
• Assisting senior accountants with year-end financial statement preparation.
• Work closely with founders and senior team members.
• A hybrid working model is implemented: while a certain level of flexibility exists, in-office attendance is required when needed and is coordinated with the team on a weekly basis.

• Relevant Accounting Degree or Diploma (e.g., BCom Accounting).
• Professional Accreditation: SAPIA, CIMA, or SAICA preferred.
• Tax Knowledge:
  Thorough understanding of South African tax legislation (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax).
• Comfortable performing calculations, not just data entry.
• SARS Tax Practitioner, or ambition to become one over time, is a bonus.
• Systems:
  Advanced proficiency in Xero (ability to review processing, set up rules, and fix integration errors).
• 1-3 Years in an accounting practice environment.
