About the Role

Our client is seeking an astute and analytical Energy Trader to join their trading desk in Stellenbosch . This role involves managing the buying and selling of energy commodities, optimizing portfolios, and identifying profitable trading opportunities in the dynamic electricity market. You will work closely with market analysts and risk managers to develop trading strategies and execute transactions effectively. This is a high-impact position for an individual with a strong understanding of energy markets and a proven ability to make timely, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment within the energy sector .

• Execute trades in physical and financial energy markets (e.g., electricity, natural gas, carbon credits).
• Monitor market trends, news, and regulatory changes impacting energy prices.
• Develop and implement trading strategies to maximize profit and minimize risk.
• Analyze market data to identify arbitrage opportunities and forecast price movements.
• Manage trading positions and ensure compliance with risk management policies.
• Collaborate with the risk management team to monitor and control exposure.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy trading, commodity trading, or a related financial role.
• Demonstrated understanding of energy market dynamics , pricing mechanisms, and trading platforms.
• Proven ability to analyze complex data sets and make quick, sound decisions under pressure.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with experience in the Western Cape market.
